While most people have favorite apps and use them often, there may be some features that you didn’t know about it. This applies to one of the most popular apps called WhatsApp.
It’s loaded with many settings and features that are visible, but you may not have noticed them. It’s a challenge to go through every setting and feature when you’re so busy.
Learning about the most useful WhatsApp tips and tricks you should know can ensure that you’re prepared for anything and get the most from the app.
Turn off Tones in Conversations
One of the biggest issues people have is that every conversation started has a tone that dings when you get a message and send one. While it can be fun to hear it when you initially start a chat, it quickly gets annoying to hear that sound play every time you receive or send a message. You can turn off that tone, and there are many instances where you should (such as at work or on a busy bus/train).
To turn off these conversation tones, you should open your WhatsApp messenger and tap on your three vertical dots at the top right-hand corner. From there, hit on ‘Settings’ and then ‘Notifications.’ The ‘Conversation Tones’ box should be checked, so you need to uncheck that box to disable the sounds for incoming/outgoing messages.
Use Separate Tones for Individual Groups/Chats
As a default, the group and individual chat notifications are the same tones. If you’d like to differentiate between these two notifications by tone, you can keep different tones for group chats and individual chats.
To change the tone for various groups/chats, you should open your WhatsApp messenger and tap on your three vertical dots at the top right-hand corner. From there, hit on ‘Settings’ from the menu and then tap on ‘Notifications.’ To change the tone for an individual chat, go to ‘Notification tone’ under the ‘Message Notifications.’ To change the tone for group chats, go to ‘Group Notifications’ under the ‘Notification Tone.’
WhatsApp also allows you to keep a separate notification tone for all of your contacts, similar to customized ringtones for your phone. You can keep a custom tone for any or all contacts. Plus, you can set customized notifications for various groups, too.
To do this, you should open the WhatsApp chat thread you’d like to change and tap on your three vertical dots on the top right-hand corner. Then, select ‘View Contact’ from that menu and tap on ‘Custom Notifications.’ You can then enable the ‘Use Custom Notifications’ feature, changing the notification tones to your liking.
As with everything, useful WhatsApp tips and tricks you should know may not always be to your liking once you’ve changed them. You can reset the notifications if you’re not happy with the results. It will reset everything to default, but it’s much faster than trying to remember what you did and undoing it.
To do this, you should open the WhatsApp messenger and tap on your three vertical dots on the top right-hand corner. From there, select ‘Settings’ from that menu and tap on ‘Notifications.’ From there, hit on your three vertical dots on the top right-hand corner again and tap the ‘Reset Notification Settings’ button.
